Healthy Habits Challenge - June 2019

Every month I post an update on how I did with "earning" my makeup budget money, and also how I spent it.

Purchases:
~ Kevyn Aucoin Neo Highlighter "Sahara" - $19 - from Marshall's, it was on my "someday" list, then it disappeared from Sephora. So I snatched it up when I saw it.
~ Sally Hansen base coat & nail polish; Seche Vite top coat - $20
~ When sunscreen was 6x points at Ulta, I bought 2 more spray-on sunscreens, but those don't count from this budget since it's a "necessity" that both my husband and I use.
~ I was able to pair my Ulta 20% off coupon with the 40% Too Faced Tutti Frutti collection, so I had a bit of fun at Ulta - lip gloss in the shade "Show Me Your Coconuts" and the "Party Ready Essentials" set that includes a full size Better Than Sex mascara, full size lip gloss in "Grin and Bare It," full size banana cream setting powder, and a mini pineapple sun bronzer - with the combo of sale and coupon (and a gift card I had), it came out to $ 22.41
~ From the same shopping trip as above, I got a lip balm with SPF for my husband and some replacement cotton rounds - those do not come out of this budget.
~ Ulta sent out another 20% off coupon (they were really coming for our money this month), and I used it to buy shampoo and conditioner for my husband (not from this budget) and another one of those Too Faced kits as a gift for someone (also not from this budget).

Books read ($1 per 100 pages)
~ The Kennedy Debutante by Kerri Maher - 368 pages ($3.68)
~ Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas - 992 pages ($9.92)
~ The Assistants by Camille Perri - 288 pages ($2.88)
~ SuperFreakonomics by Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner - 270 pages ($2.70)

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

Fire & Ice Project Pan [Update #1]

The youtubers are uploading their updates, so here I am, tagging along for update #1! I think I had a pretty successful first month. I also used mostly deluxe sized samples, but eh, I'll take the morale boost. ~ Fire item: Firecracker from the Tartelette in Bloom palette. My goal for the first update was to wear down some of the lettering on it, and I made a decent-looking dent in the first few letters! I'm more of a stab my brush in one place until I see the pan kind of person rather than an even use kind of person, so I probably won't wear down the other letters. I've been wearing this as my lid shade for most of the days I wear makeup, so my next goal is to continue doing that. I suspect I might start to get sick of it, so hopefully I'll be able to keep going with it. ~ Ice item: Tarte smooth operator loose setting powder (deluxe sample size). My goal for this update was to be able to make another line to mark my progress. Unfortunately, the way I get the pro...

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...
