Empties - October 2019

I'm happy with the skincare I was able to move out of my backup drawer - I've actually started to use some full-sized products since I've made it through so many of the minis. The perfume sample drawer is still going strong though. It's like a hydra - I use up one and two more pop up in its' place.

~ Ole Henriksen Counter Balance oil control hydrator - This was a good lightweight gel moisturizer for the summer months, but it had the same scent as the cleanser I previously finished and I'm not a fan of the scent. Probably would not repurchase.
~ Lancome sunscreen - This was a very thin liquid, even after shaking, and it left an oily sheen. Which was fine if I applied makeup over it, but I couldn't just leave a bare face. So I would not repurchase this.
~ Juliette Has a Gun "Moscow Mule" sample - The notes are "zesty lime and ginger" and I liked the spicyness of this for the transition to fall. I have another sample of this I'm planning to use in November.
~ YSL Mon Paris - This one has a ton of notes, including red berries, pear, white flower, musk, and patchouli (according to the Sephora website). It's very sweet on the top, which I like, but something in the base notes is kind of sharp and sneezy to me. I don't mind using the samples I get of this, but I can't see myself purchasing it.
~ Cerave foaming facial cleanser - This was unscented and basic and fine. I could probably repurchase this even though it doesn't excite me. Does cleanser need to be exciting? I don't think so, but my inner consumerist slave thinks it does. It's a struggle.
~ Estee Lauder advanced night repair eye - This was a luxurious, thick eye cream that made my eyes feel very soft in the morning. I don't think I'm at the point at which I need a heavy-duty night cream, but I would consider this one once I get there.
~ It Cosmetics superhero mascara - I do love a good volumizing mascara, and this one is no exception. It gave me those big butterfly lashes without feeling heavy throughout the day. I would consider purchasing this, but I still have a backlog of sample mascaras that will likely last me the next year or so, so we're a long way off from repurchasing any mascara.
~ Sunday Riley Good Genes mini - I want this to be the miracle product for me that it seems to be to the rest of the internet, but I'm not sure that it is. I still have a few samples hanging around that I'll totally use, but I'm not sure it'll be worth the coin to repurchase.
~ Bath and Body Works "Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte" hand cream - I use these as body & hand lotion, so I was able to use this fairly quickly. I tend to get coupons for free B&BW items so I get these free and already have many backups (in various scents).

Goals for November:
- use up a face mask
- finish a lipstick (you'll see which one in the Fall Beauty Focus update)
- use two more perfume samples (my usual system), then use Elizabeth & James Nirvana Bourbon (my perfume for the month, I'm very sad they discontinued the line)

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

Fire & Ice Project Pan [Update #1]

The youtubers are uploading their updates, so here I am, tagging along for update #1! I think I had a pretty successful first month. I also used mostly deluxe sized samples, but eh, I'll take the morale boost. ~ Fire item: Firecracker from the Tartelette in Bloom palette. My goal for the first update was to wear down some of the lettering on it, and I made a decent-looking dent in the first few letters! I'm more of a stab my brush in one place until I see the pan kind of person rather than an even use kind of person, so I probably won't wear down the other letters. I've been wearing this as my lid shade for most of the days I wear makeup, so my next goal is to continue doing that. I suspect I might start to get sick of it, so hopefully I'll be able to keep going with it. ~ Ice item: Tarte smooth operator loose setting powder (deluxe sample size). My goal for this update was to be able to make another line to mark my progress. Unfortunately, the way I get the pro...

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...
