Healthy Habits Challenge - October 2019

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of October.

Purchases:
~ I got my hair cut this month, and I got my usual purifying/softening treatment. Not included in this budget, but it it beauty related, so I thought I'd mention it anyway.
~ Urban Decay primer potion travel size (replacement, doesn't come out of budget); Cover FX mattifying primer (had a coupon and a gift card, so this set me back $20.40)
~ Not a purchase, but my godparents generously sent me the Sephora favorites lip set and a Marc Jacobs gift set with a mascara and a lipstick (so it's products added to my collection, but not money spent)

Books read ($1 per 100 pages)
~ Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng - 348 pages ($3.48)
~ For the Sake of Elena by Elizabeth George - 388 pages ($3.88)
~ Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl - 508 pages ($5.08)

Exercise ($1 per workout class attended)
~ 10/2/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 10/4/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 10/11/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 10/14/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 10/26/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 10/29/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 10/31/19 - Orange Theory class - $1

Money available to spend: $15.12

I'm happy with my balance this past month. Between getting sick and starting a new job, I feel like I still exercised a decent amount and managed not to stifle my stress with shopping. My goal is to hold strong during the holiday sale season and not buy all the shiny things (holiday collections are my weakness).

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

December 2018 Empties

Y'all. This month looks pitiful compared to past months. I suspect it's because I've mainly been using full-sized skincare so I'm not blazing through as much as I have been. ~ It cosmetics secret sauce moisturizer sample - was a little too much for my oily skin. would not repurchase. ~ Mario Badescu herbal rehydrating serum sample set - this was a gel moisturizer, so it's no surprise that I liked this one. Might try it again in the future, but I have a lot of moisturizer to go through first. ~ 2 Sephora samples of Commodity Gold perfume - this is a warm, sweet scent that I really enjoy and I currently have a travel-size spray. ~ Living Proof perfect hair day shampoo - if you remember when I finished the conditioner, you'll recall that I hated this pair of shampoo and conditioner and I used it up as a shaving cream. Would not repurchase. ~ Estee Lauder sumptuous infinite mascara - this has a plastic bristle brush, which I normally don't like, but...
