June Empties & Pans

June was another good month for sample usage. Since I'm preparing to move in with my fiance, I've been trying to use up my skincare samples that I've been toting around. I also started piling everything into a shopping bag instead of just having a pile of trash on my dresser. Because apparently saving your beauty-related trash so you can post a picture on the internet is weird. Go figure.

~ Garnier Fructis dry shampoo - discussed in Fire & Ice project updates.
~ UD Naked Skin Foundation - I feel like this oxidized on me, and I don't enjoy being orange. The formula was nice though. Might repurchase.
~ Ole Henriksen African Red Tea cleanser - this was the last item in the 3 little wonders sample kit to bite the dust. It was nice; I feel like it stripped my skin a bit. I would not repurchase.
~ Tarte marine boosting mist DS - smelled like spraying lemon pledge on my face and I didn't notice a difference in my makeup wear time. Would not repurchase.
~ Tarte Smooth Operator loose setting powder DS - discussed in Fire & Ice updates
~ Dr Jart sunscreen - also in Fire & Ice
~ The body shop foil - I don't remember what this was exactly, nor do I remember what it was supposed to do. A foil packet is too small for skincare.
~ Lancer "polish" - nice exfoliant, wouldn't go out of my way to purchase it
~ Origins Gin-zing eye cream - I liked the pearly color and it made my eyes feel nice. I might repurchase.
~ Laura Mercier mega moisture cream sample - I can't tell if I liked it or if it made me too greasy. Probably wouldn't repurchase because I have cheaper, better face lotions.
~ Peter Thomas Roth moisturizer DS - this was a nice, light day moisturizer with a gel texture. Might repurchase.
~ Dr Brandt microdermabrasion - I really liked this. If I had a need for a physical exfoliating product and it wasn't so dang expensive I might repurchase this.
~ Replica Beach Walk sample - I loved this. Again, so expensive. I have 2 more samples, so those should probably get me through the summer without dropping $120 on perfume.
~ Marc Jacobs Daisy sample - I still like this one, but it really doesn't last very long on me so I probably wouldn't purchase it. I would use samples though.
~ Living Proof overnight hair perfector - I liked the scent, but I'm not entirely sure it did anything? It didn't make my hair super greasy, but didn't improve it in any noticeable way. Would not repurchase.
~ Covergirl ready set gorgeous concealer - it was okay, good color match. Very sheer though. Might repurchase after trying other concealers.
~ Dior dreamskin something or other - let's be real. I have no idea what this is or what it's supposed to do. It has diamonds in it? What? Why? I liked using it as a primer, but the theme of this month remains - hella expensive. Would not repurchase.

Blush pan!
~ Revlon Naughty Nude - there's a bit of pan peeking through there in the textured bit. It's there! I promise! I still like this blush, just trying to rotate through some of my others now.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
