March 2018 Empties

I went after a lot of my mini products with a vengeance this past month. My fiance participated in the Residency Match and we learned that we will be moving to another city over the summer. There's so much I want to use up so I don't have to pack it (project coming soon, probably later today). Without further ado, here are my empty products:

Top - yes, I used up that brush. That brush has seen some things. May it rest in peace.
~ L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte in 101 Classic Ivory - This has a decently skin-like finish on me with a good color match once it oxidizes. I have already repurchased.
~ Maybelline Master fix wear-boosting setting spray - This is okay. I don't notice a huge increase in the longevity of my makeup, but I would buy it again since it's a good price.
~ Smashbox photo finish foundation primer - This gives a nice smooth finish for my foundation application. I don't really like that it makes my face feel greasy though. I would use another sample, but will probably not repurchase.
~ Clarins last minute base - Decent primer, with a "pore-filling primer" feel to it.
~ Lancer nourish moisturizer - A little too thick of a moisturizer for my needs. Would not purchase.
~Sunday Riley CEO - used as both morning serum and moisturizer. I didn't notice a skin difference and for the price, I would need to see more of a difference. Would not purchase.
~ Fresh rose face mask (tub and top right foil pack) - I like this, it's lightly hydrating, but I don't love it enough to purchase. I would use more samples though.
~ Farmacy Honey Potion mask - This was very warming, and pretty hydrating. Major con: it's glass, and I use masks in the shower. That did not go well. Would not purchase.
~ Drunk Elephant B Hydra hydration gel - I liked it more from this pack than the travel size I previously tried. It felt more like a gel moisturizer, and I enjoyed it. Would purchase in a larger size.

(Back to the left side)
~ NARS radiant creamy concealer in vanilla travel size - Nice formula, wore pretty well, but looked orange on my under-eyes. Probably would not purchase.
~ Marc Jacobs "slow burn" DS - This was a rose colored lipstick with a moderately long-lasting formula. You may recognize it from my 12 Pans of Christmas project, and now it's done! I probably won't repurchase since there are so many lipsticks I'd like to try.
~ ABH brow wiz in soft brown DS - probably too light of a color for me, but it was okay. I've gotten into the brow pencil life, and I already have a full size (soon to have more thanks to the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty sale).
~ Wet n Wild proline felt tip eyeliner (black) - I'm not a fan of felt tip eyeliners - I prefer brush tip for a really thin line. I used this up by wearing it on my work days, and it went by quickly. Would not repurchase.
~ Real Techniques sponge - it was time. Have already repurchased.
~ Korres Black Pine serum - This was an anti-aging collagen serum. Do I need this? Probably not. But I got drawn in at TJ Maxx and thus I had to use it up. Would not repurchase for this phase of my life.
~ Giorgio Armani fluid sheer - I'm not 100% sure what this is supposed to be, but I put it all over my face like a primer. Jokes on me, it's like a liquid highlighter. But not metallic enough to really be a liquid highlight. Oh well, it's gone now. Would not purchase.
~ Biossance squalane vitamin C & rose oil - Once I got used to using an oil, I started to really enjoy this. I think I may have noticed an improvement in my skin, so I might repurchase this at some point.
~ Cane & Austin miracle pad - I've only used the one, but I have 2 more, so I'll give opinions in the next empties post.
~ Clarins sunscreen - This was a nice, basic sunscreen. I don't think there's much of a difference between this and, say, Neutrogena. Would not purchase.
~ Marc Jacobs Divine Decadence DS - This was candy sweet, but also a little deeper, like an amber? I'm terrible at scent notes, but I enjoyed this fragrance. I would want to try another sample, but probably wouldn't purchase at this point.

November 2017 Empties

I'm happy with my skincare progress this past month. My system for using up perfume samples is also still going well, even though the darn things keep coming in. Per usual, here's a picture to be followed by mini-reviews and thoughts: ~ Stella McCartney sample card - I remember this as being a nice floral. Something I would use a sample of, but not necessarily buy. ~ J'Adore by Dior sample card - this smells like perfume to me. I couldn't really discern any specific notes. That said, it smells nice. I probably would not purchase this, partly because it doesn't come in a rollerball. ~ Elizabeth & James Nirvana Amethyst sample - The tobacco flower notes made me smell a bit like a smoker. A powdery smoker. Would not purchase. ~ Josie Maran finishing balm - will discuss in project pan update ~ Urban Decay "Stark Naked" - will discuss in project pan update ~ Maybelline FitMe concealer in 15/fair - This grew on me. It looks a bit too warm right of...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...
