Empties - December 2019

Volume-wise, December was a little lackluster. However, I'm happy with the amount of makeup I was able to finish off (as opposed to a million little skincare samples).

~ Jesse's Girl liquid liner "Black" - This is a brush-tip liner, which is my preferred application. Not as smooth as my favorite Clinique liner, but it did the job.

~ Anastasia Beverly Hills brow definer "Medium Brown" - I'm not sure if I prefer the thicker pencil or the brow wiz, but I definitely had power brows when I used this one. I'm not opposed to getting another in the future. Honestly, it just depends on which pencils are on sale during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty.

~ Smashbox Primerizer sample - Okay moisturizer, but not a great primer for my oily skin. Would not purchase.

~ Kat von D Saint perfume sample - Very similar to Marc Jacobs "Daisy" which I already own. I have way too much perfume already, and I no longer purchase from Kat von D, otherwise I would be tempted to purchase this.

~ Kat von D Sinner perfume sample - Very similar to Elizabeth and James "Nirvana Black" which is now sadly discontinued. For similar reasons to "Saint" I won't be purchasing this one either.

~ Buxom lipgloss "White Russian" - I know this is a super-popular shade, but I couldn't get into it. I applied it as a plumping lip balm and enjoyed it that way. I like this gloss formula, but probably wouldn't intentionally repurchase this. In the event I get another little freebie, I'll happily use it up as well.

~ Farmacy Green Screen sunscreen mini - A mineral sunscreen that wears well under makeup, I can get into it. It was a little shiny if I didn't put makeup on, but not enough to deter me from wanting to repurchase this.

~ Tarte loose setting powder - I'm really happy to have used this up since it was my oldest setting powder, and even then it was a destash from a friend. I would use this again, but I don't know if I would seek it out over other setting powders.

~ Youth to the People superfood cleanser - I've used a few samples and deluxe sizes of this, and the cleanser itself is pretty nice. Unfortunately, the container is glass and I've broken it in the shower every time I've tried it. This time I decanted it into a plastic container, and I enjoyed it much more that way.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
