Thoughts on July Purchases

Soooo, these no-buy attempts are not going great. Technically, this month was a "replacement only low buy" so it's not as bad. But most of these are not replacements. Oh, well. Here we go! (in chronological order)

~ L'Oreal Lash Paradise: Not gonna lie, I bought this because of all the hype it was getting. And I was staring at a pile of deluxe sample mascaras that I didn't pick out myself but still felt compelled to use. So I bought a mascara. I actually really like it! It's volumizing without making my lashes look chunky, and it looks good on my lower lashes too. Would probably repurchase after I get through some more samples.
~ Replica Beach Walk: I've gone through two samples of this, and I love it. On me it smells like coconut and honeysuckle, so it's a great spring/summer perfume. It's been going in and out of stock at Sephora, so I snagged it while it was in stock. No Ragrets.
~ NARS vanilla travel size: I actually haven't used this yet. I've been using a Maybelline FitMe in 15 Fair, and it looks just a hair too dark, so I want to use that as much as I can while it's still summer and I'm getting outside more. I look forward to trying it out though.
~ ABH Subculture: Yep. I did it. Before all the negative reviews came out. I watched them all while waiting for my palette to come in the mail. I should have just waited to buy it from Sephora. I like all the colors, and don't find it as hard to work with as many of my youtubers do. Maybe it's because I'm not a blending master so it doesn't bother me as much if something isn't perfectly blended out. I'm really let down by Cube though (white/pink duochrome). Otherwise, I've enjoyed using it so far, especially when I mix it with my ABH Master Palette by Mario for the shimmers. I wouldn't say it's a must-have, but I'm also not going to go out of my way to return it (mostly because I lost the return shipping label, oops).

Side note: I've held strong so far through August! I went to Sephora and only bought a birthday gift for a friend and that's it! Fingers crossed I can finish strong. I already made it through Ulta 20% off and 2x points and I'm nearing the end of Sephora 4x points. My goal is to make it until the stores' birthday gifts in September.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
