Healthy Habits Challenge - December 2019

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of December:

Purchases:
~ Bite Beauty mini lipstick set - $10 (on sale!)
~ Buxom lipgloss "Kir Royale" (my cat stole the other one I had) and ImPress press-on nails - $24
~ I used my Ulta points and a 20% off coupon for a Christmas Eve purchase - Anastasia Beverly Hills Carli Bybel palette, Cover FX bronzer & highlight duo (that came w/ a GWP), an eyeshadow palette for my mom (that I won't name here so it will stay a surprise), Too Faced Better Than Sex eyeliner, 2 of my husband's shampoos, and 1 conditioner for my husband. - $7.12
~ I used my 20% off sale items on Sephora for a set of dry shampoos (staple item, not coming out of this budget) and I also bought a Sephora Play box on sale - $8

Books read ($1 per 100 pages)
~ Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis - 241 pages ($2.41)
~ The Meaning of Marriage by Tim & Kathy Keller - 286 pages ($2.86)
~ Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid - 355 pages ($3.55)

Exercise ($1 per workout class attended)
~ 12/4/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 12/5/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 12/6/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 12/7/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 12/8/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 12/9/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 12/11/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 12/23/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 12/24/19 - 1h walk outside - $4
~ 12/25/19 - 1h walk outside - $4
~ 12/27/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 12/30/19 - Orange Theory class - $1

Money available to spend: $8.18

This budget will carry over into 2020, and I plan to continue this challenge. I think I've done a decent job of sticking to this project, and also maintaining the spirit of the project - namely, focusing my attention on pursuits other than the online beauty community.

In 2020, I want to focus more on actually seeing meaningful use out of my collection. I started an Instagram so I can more easily document my project panning journey. If you'd like, give me a follow @magsusingupmakeup - content will be similar to here, but will hopefully have more.

Fire & Ice Project Pan [Update #1]

The youtubers are uploading their updates, so here I am, tagging along for update #1! I think I had a pretty successful first month. I also used mostly deluxe sized samples, but eh, I'll take the morale boost. ~ Fire item: Firecracker from the Tartelette in Bloom palette. My goal for the first update was to wear down some of the lettering on it, and I made a decent-looking dent in the first few letters! I'm more of a stab my brush in one place until I see the pan kind of person rather than an even use kind of person, so I probably won't wear down the other letters. I've been wearing this as my lid shade for most of the days I wear makeup, so my next goal is to continue doing that. I suspect I might start to get sick of it, so hopefully I'll be able to keep going with it. ~ Ice item: Tarte smooth operator loose setting powder (deluxe sample size). My goal for this update was to be able to make another line to mark my progress. Unfortunately, the way I get the pro...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

December 2018 Empties

Y'all. This month looks pitiful compared to past months. I suspect it's because I've mainly been using full-sized skincare so I'm not blazing through as much as I have been. ~ It cosmetics secret sauce moisturizer sample - was a little too much for my oily skin. would not repurchase. ~ Mario Badescu herbal rehydrating serum sample set - this was a gel moisturizer, so it's no surprise that I liked this one. Might try it again in the future, but I have a lot of moisturizer to go through first. ~ 2 Sephora samples of Commodity Gold perfume - this is a warm, sweet scent that I really enjoy and I currently have a travel-size spray. ~ Living Proof perfect hair day shampoo - if you remember when I finished the conditioner, you'll recall that I hated this pair of shampoo and conditioner and I used it up as a shaving cream. Would not repurchase. ~ Estee Lauder sumptuous infinite mascara - this has a plastic bristle brush, which I normally don't like, but...
