April Empties

I finished seven items during the month of April (well, six if you don't count the Sephora sample, but I do). I'll go clockwise from the perfume sample with the hot air balloon on it:

~ Replica perfume in "flying": this was a light citrusy, almost herbal scent. It smelled like going into a store at the mall that had an incense section. The sprayer on the sample was awesome. Other than that, would not purchase in a larger size (also it's hella expensive).
~ Fresh rose face mask foil sample: this feels nice on my face, not really sure if it did anything. If I got another sample, I would use it. I wouldn't seek out this product.
~ Drybar detox dry shampoo (sample from Sephora Play): this was very scented, like I could still smell it the next morning if I put it in at night kind of scented. And if I got it too close to my head, it left a white cast. I'm glad I got to try it, but I would not purchase it.
~ Glamglow youthmud (sample from Sephora Play): I should have known, since "mud" is in the name, but this was mud. I found sticks in it. I do not like tingly sticks on my face. I felt exfoliated after...but sticks. Would not purchase. Would pawn off on someone else if I got another sample.
~ Clinique pep start eye cream (point perk sample from Sephora): I liked the texture, but I feel like it irritated my eyes after a while of being on. Would not purchase.
~ Sunday Riley Good Genes (sample from Sephora store): I don't know what I was expecting from this. To have suddenly beautiful skin? For it to sing me a song? It smells nice and it makes me feel fancy to use. I think I would have to use it for longer to really give a review of its' results. I already have a 100 point perk sample of this, so maybe I'll have an opinion then. I don't know if I would purchase this, simply because of the price, but I would definitely snatch up point perks and samples.
~ Benefit pore-fessional primer foil. I got about three uses out of this foil using it under my eyes. I like putting it there since it has a bit of color to it so it makes me feel like I'm getting extra coverage. I have another foil of this that might make an appearance next month. I don't think I would seek out another sample, nor would I purchase.

Goals for May
~ No-buy for makeup, skincare, & hair care - I have two orders that will arrive in May, but I'm not going to purchase anything. If I run out of something, I'm gonna have to figure it out. I highly doubt I'll run out of anything though. The exception is that I'm not going to cancel Sephora Play for a month because the service doesn't work like that.
~ Work on Fire & Ice project pan (updates on blog) and the 6 by Summer Solstice project pan (updates on r/makeuprehab) to move some items out & get use out of under-loved products.
~ Actually use bronzer. I currently only own a deluxe sample size of Too Faced Chocolate Soleil. I'm not sure it's the best color for me, but I can't really know for sure unless I wear the crap out of it. If I determine that it's not the best color match, then maybe I can get a different one once my no-buy is over.
~ non-makeup goal: finish The Martian - I've been carrying this thing around everywhere, and I'm almost done.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
