Healthy Habits Challenge April 2018 (formerly labeled Reading Challenge)

I decided to rename this activity to better suit its purpose. I want to replace makeup purchasing and makeup Youtube watching with more enriching activities. As a way to (hopefully) rein in my spending on makeup and encourage other activities I get money towards my makeup budget from reading, running, and learning Spanish on Duolingo.

Purchases:
~ MAC Instant Artistry Lip Prep Nude Kit - $19.75
this was an Ulta 21 Days of Beauty impulse buy. I wanted to try MAC products and I thought I might like Velvet Teddy, so I did it. Hopefully I won't regret it.
~ Jo Malone sampler set - $82 (I had a gift card and I'm not counting that.) Yes, I need to work on my positive coping skills. I'm a work in progress.
~ Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color in "Plum" - impulse purchase from Belk since I had heard good things about them. I went in "just to swatch." That always works out the same way. - $24 (at least it was on sale?)
~ Tatcha kit and mini Hourglass Dim Light from the Sephora sale - $40

Books Read ($1 per 100 pages):
~ The Intelligent Conversationalist by Imogen Lloyd Webber - 396 pages ($3.96)

Running challenge ($3 per 1 mile):
~ 4/5/18 - 3 miles ($9)
~ 4/9/18 - 3 miles ($9)
~ 4/20/18 - 2.75 miles ($8.25)
~ 4/22/18 - 2 miles ($6)
~ 4/25/18 - I ran outside, I timed 20 minutes of running time and there were hills ($10)
~ 4/27/18 - outside, about 2 miles ($6)

Duolingo ($1 per 10 day streak):
~ 10 day streak hit on 4/16/18 ($1)
~ 20 day streak hit on 4/26/18 ($1)

How am I doing? (includes totals carried over from previous months, starting Dec 2017)
Total spent: $297.37
Total read: 6315 pages
Total run: 49.5 miles ($140.5)
Total Duolingo: 20 days ($2)
How am I doing? -$82.80 available to spend

Yep, back in the negatives. I'm going to work on it.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
