Project Use It Up - update

Here's what my checklist looked like at the end of April. There are more pictures of certain products I thought would be interesting to see. Some of them aren't pictured either because they'd be boring or because I've since finished them off. I'll probably end up spoiling which is which. As a reminder, the ones with checks have been finished and the ones with blank circles are still in progress. As I meet my goals, I add in a new one at the end of the list. Between each month, I'll take off the ones completed at the last update so this list doesn't become unmanageably long.

Here's what we're working with for May:

 - I used up two candles, and I was sad to see the "Happy" candle go. My scent-hating fiance actually enjoyed that one too. Maybe someday I won't have 7 million candles and I can repurchase it.
- The items in progress at the beginning are going to take a long time. I got ambitious with the full-sized items.
- I finished the brow gel and the glamglow cleanser between the screenshot of this list and the writing of the post. I'll talk about them in my next empties post. See most recent empties for descriptions of the other used up cosmetics/perfumes.

- This is "Very Hollywood" by Michael Kors. It was my first fancy perfume, received as a Christmas gift I don't even know how long ago. Left: the first line is where I started in the middle of the month when I rolled it in; the lower line is where I ended April. Right: now you know what I mean by 2nd row of dots - I want to get through the middle part of the pattern on the bottle. It still has too much sentimental value to totally pan.

- This thing is going to take so long. Note to self: do not buy face mist at TJ Maxx or Marshall's. You do not need face mist. All it does is enhance my orange scent in the morning. (The lower line is where I ended in April.)

- Ooh, look! The makeup part! I can sometimes see windows in the lip gloss and concealer. And now you can see how much I have left of the L'Oreal eyeliner and the lip liner (rolled up all the way, hopefully will be done soon).
- Face lotion in a tub is boring and the candle burns poorly so I can't make lines on it. Boo.

As an aside, I'm also trying to work through all of my foil samples, but I don't put them in here since they're finished in under a month. Every thing I finish is one fewer item to pack and take with me when I move.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
