Empties - March 2019

March saw the end of more skincare and perfume than it did makeup products. As you may have seen in my Healthy Habits update, my purchasing also increased this past month. I'm aiming to have April have more products out than in.

~ Drunk Elephant C-Firma day serum - I like having this vitamin C in my routine. I feel like it makes any dark spots or acne scars less noticeable more quickly. I already had a backup of this.
~ Sunday Riley Good Genes lactic acid treatment - This also does nice things to my skin texture, and I also have a backup of this.
~ Viva la Juicy Soiree sample - This had a light, fruity scent, but it smells very similar to a Bath & body works spray I have, so I wouldn't purchase this.
~ Michael Kors Sexy Amber sample - The notes for this are sandalwood, patchouli, amber, and musk. It smelled nice, but not all that special to me. Would not purchase, but would use another sample.
~ Boscia detoxifying black cleanser - This smells very strongly like paint. The product itself was okay,  but not a fan of the scent. Wouldn't purchase.
~ Murad retinol youth renewal night cream - I didn't see much of a result from this. I'm in the market for a retinol product, but I probably would not repurchase this one. I just don't know what to do with "active" creams - do I still put a moisturizer on top? Do I have to wait in between layers? Too much.
~ Dior Diorshow pump n volume mascara - This one really grew on me. Gimmicky packaging that you squeeze before application, but the volume was fantastic. I don't know if I would pay the outrageous price for a full size, but I would definitely get another mini like this one.
~ Elizabeth & James Nirvana bourbon rollerball - this has a vanilla/bourbon top note and it's one of my favorites. Unfortunately, the whole line has been discontinued. I did snag a full size while I could still find one, so I'm okay to move this rollerball out of my collection.
~ Makeup For Ever ultra HD foundation in shade Y245 - I like the formula, but this color is too dark and too yellow for me.
~ Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r primer - This was decently mattifying and made a pretty good base for the rest of my makeup. I might repurchase this at some point, but it's not at the top of my list.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

Fire & Ice Project Pan [Update #1]

The youtubers are uploading their updates, so here I am, tagging along for update #1! I think I had a pretty successful first month. I also used mostly deluxe sized samples, but eh, I'll take the morale boost. ~ Fire item: Firecracker from the Tartelette in Bloom palette. My goal for the first update was to wear down some of the lettering on it, and I made a decent-looking dent in the first few letters! I'm more of a stab my brush in one place until I see the pan kind of person rather than an even use kind of person, so I probably won't wear down the other letters. I've been wearing this as my lid shade for most of the days I wear makeup, so my next goal is to continue doing that. I suspect I might start to get sick of it, so hopefully I'll be able to keep going with it. ~ Ice item: Tarte smooth operator loose setting powder (deluxe sample size). My goal for this update was to be able to make another line to mark my progress. Unfortunately, the way I get the pro...
