Empties - May 2019

I finished one makeup item, and was able to move out more skincare and perfume samples. Slow but steady progress!

(top row, left to right)
~ Olly x Sephora Collection skin detox gummy vitamins - I know what you're thinking, yes they're vitamins not makeup/skincare/etc. BUT I bought them from Sephora during the sale and they came out of my beauty budget, so they're going in the empties! I didn't see any results from these (color us all surprised), so I would not repurchase.
~ Drunk Elephant C-Tango eye cream deluxe sample - This was nicely hydrating for the daytime, but I didn't see any thrilling results so I don't think I'd repurchase at this time (so expensive), but I'd happily use another sample.
~ First Aid Beauty acne clearing charcoal cleanser - No acne improvement, okay cleanser but not my favorite. Would not repurchase.
~ Philosophy purity cleanser foil - I keep acquiring these and thus keep using them up. No complaints, no raves. I still have another foil kicking around I think.
~ Tocca "Stella" sample - too sharply floral on me, would not repurchase
~ Jo Malone "Honeysuckle and Davinah" sample - also pretty sharp on me, and I have another sample I'm working on for June.
~ Viva La Juicy sample - The juicy fragrances always smell nice and light and wear well on me. Unfortunately, they also remind me of middle and high school when everyone would reapply perfume after gym class.

(bottom row, left to right)
~ ABH brow wiz "medium brown" - glad to have this moved out! It took about a year, and I've already repurchased its' replacement during the Ulta 21 days of beauty.
~ Mario Badescu buttermilk moisturizer - This was light enough to be a daytime moisturizer for me, and I think the small amount of acids in it helped to brighten my complexion. I wasn't expecting to like this, but I would consider repurchasing it!
~ Charlotte's Magic Cream foil - Ain't nothing magical enough for $100+; besides that, it was a decent overnight moisturizer. Would not purchase a full size, but might consider if it's available as a point perk.
~ Briogeo Scalp Revival shampoo - I liked this a lot more before my move last summer (the water in my new location builds stuff up in my hair and makes it disgusting), so I had to slog through the last bits of it. Probably would not repurchase while we're living in our current area just because it doesn't agree with my hair anymore.

My plan for June is to continue working through my sample backlog. Since I've cut back on my purchasing, I'm starting to see a decrease in the size of my previously-overflowing skincare storage. It will be nice to intentionally acquire skincare for a change.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
