Healthy Habits Challenge - May 2019

For those who haven't seen this recurring post explained - I have a system in which I have to "earn" the money I spend on makeup by doing activities that are better for my mental health than buying & applying makeup and consuming makeup-related media. I can buy whatever I want, it just has to be within the budget. I recently decreased the amount I earned from exercise since it was adding up fairly quickly and was burning a hole in my pocket, so to speak. Here's how I did for May!

Purchases:
~ Ulta: Urban Decay x Game of Thrones eyeliner "Lannister Gold" and eyeshadow brush shaped like Arya's sword, "Needle"; L'Oreal infallible pro matte foundation "101 Classic Ivory" - $68
~ Sephora: pineapple nose mask, purchased to get shipping for point perks; Point perks: NARS powermatte liquid lipstick "American Woman," Bobbi Brown crushed liquid lip "Smoothie Move" and Sunday Riley A+ retinol - $3
~ Sephora Play! box (individual sale, not the subscription) - $9

Books read ($1 per 100 pages)
~ The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer - 522 pages ($5.22)
~ A Great Deliverance by Elizabeth George - 431 pages ($4.31)
~ The Secret Life of Violet Grant by Beatriz Williams - 432 pages ($4.32)
~ American Gods by Neil Gaiman - 674 pages ($6.74)
~ Swept Off Her Feet by Hester Browne - 330 pages ($3.30)

Exercise ($4 per workout video, from the BeachBody line of workout videos)
~ 5/1/19 - 1h walk - $4
~ 5/2/19 - LIIFT4 - Week7, Day4 - $4
~ 5/3/19 - LIIFT4 - Week8, Day1 - $4
~ 5/6/19 - LIIFT4 - Week8, Day2 - $4
~ 5/6/19 - 1h walk - $4
~ 5/27/19 - LIIFT4 - Week8, Day3 - $4
~ 5/27/19 - 1h walk - $4
~ 5/28/19 - LIIFT4 - Week8, Day4 (last day of the program!) - $4

Money available to spend: $41.11

It's been almost half the year, and I've actually been able to stick to this system of "earning" my beauty product budget. I have been able to splurge on things (like the Ulta haul above) but also had to stop myself from other big-ticket items because there wasn't money in the budget. Those Natasha Denona palettes on sale for Memorial Day really tempted me, but I stayed strong!

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
