Fall Beauty Focus - November 2019

In lieu of a traditional project pan, I've been working on a few products out of my collection for a month at a time, either to use them up, get some extra use out of them, or decide how I feel about them. Like a combination project pan/makeup basket/chopping block, if you will.

October selections and outcomes:
~ MAC prep+prime lip - When I added this in, I had no idea why I had it (it came in a set, that's why I had it). Since I wore liquid lipsticks so much in October, this product was a game changer. I could actually wear liquid lipsticks without my lips flaking off. It's not an everyday necessity, but I'm glad I have one now.
~ Benefit precisely my brow pencil (shade 4.5) - I purchased this during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty sale and wanted to make sure I liked it. It's a little bit softer than the ABH brow formula I'm used to, but I enjoyed it and will be happy to use it.
~ ABH Master Palette by Mario - I probably didn't get as much use out of this as I could have, mainly because I ended up traveling a lot, and I took my Pan those Eyeshadows with me instead. Still like it, still glad to have it.
~ Too Faced melted matte lipsticks (Holiday 2018 collection) - Especially when paired with the lip primer, these are a great formula. I also love that they each have unique scents that go with the color (i.e. "hot buttered rum" smells like hot buttered rum and so on). Even though I used these a lot last month, I still need to use them more before they start to go off.
~ NYX eye liner ("golden olive") - I've been using this as a base for "Light my world" the green-gold shadow in my Pan those Eyeshadows, and it's been great. I think I'll keep using it for that for as long as that shadow is in the project.

November selections and goals:
~ Lorac Pro palette - This is one of the older palettes in my collection, and it already has a good deal of pan. I'd like to expand the pan in "white" and hit pan on "mauve" (probably a stretch goal) and "sable" (already has a decent dip)
~ Tarte setting powder - This is a deluxe sized sample I've had in my collection for at least two years, and my goal is to finish this up.
~ Buxom mini gloss ("White Russian") - This is too white-based to look good on me, but it's already halfway gone, so my goal is to finish it. I'll probably use it up as a lip balm. A very tingly lip balm.
~ NARS Audacious lipstick ("Mona") - A beautiful browny-red, this is one of the older lipsticks in my collection. I don't reach for reds that often, so my goal is to use this at least once a week.
~ Hourglass ambient lighting palette (Holiday 2018) - I'm still learning the best way to use the Hourglass powders. Honestly, I'm pretty sure they're an aspirational product for me. I just want to get some good use out of this since I paid so much for it last year.

November is going to be a lot of finishing off the low-hanging fruit before I re-do my inventory in December. I have a bad feeling about those lip product numbers (always my weakness).

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
