Weekly Makeup Basket - December 23, 2018

This is my "free for all week" before I jump back into project pan items next week. Unfortunately, I worked Christmas this year (I'm a nurse, so holidays and weekends off are not a guaranteed thing). This picture is also a look at how my makeup basket normally looks before I spruce it up for the weekly photo.

Base products:
~ Lancome teint idole "90 Ivore" - surprisingly too light on me. It was a near perfect match when I tried it on in Ulta, which makes me very wary of their lighting now. Luckily I only got a sample.
~ Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi sample - used for mixing with the foundation, and it's been working pretty well so far.
~ Tatcha silk canvas primer
~ L'Oreal Magic Lumi highlighter pen "860 Fair" - I use this as an under-eye concealer
~ Mac Fix+ - not a great setting spray, but decent for foiling eyeshadow
~ Cover FX perfect setting powder "Translucent Light"

Face products:
~ Benefit Hoola Lite bronzer
~ NARS blush "Orgasm"
~ Becca highlighter "Vanilla Quartz"

Eye products:
~ ABH Sultry eyeshadow palette - yes, I bought another one. It was my Christmas gift to myself. I love all the metallic colors. If I apply with just the brush I get a pretty wash of sparkly color, or I use the Fix+ to foil it for a more dramatic look. No regrets.
~ Lorac eyeshadow primer
~ Jesse's Girl black liquid eyeliner
~ UD walk of shame waterline eyeliner
~ L'Oreal highlight eyeliner - this product is never going away, and it's time I accept that.
~ Estee Lauder mascara

Brow products:
~ ABH tinted brow gel "Espresso"
~ ABH brow definer "Medium Brown"

Lip products:
~ Buxom lip liner "Hush Hush"
~ NARS Audacious lipstick "Anita"

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
