Empties - September 2019

Man, this looked a lot more impressive when it was filling up the bag in which I store my empties. I'm continuing to chip away at my backstock of skincare products. I'm especially excited to have moved out that giant lotion (even if it is from last year). Anyway, here's everything I finished up during the month of September.

~ Batiste dry shampoo "tropical" - This was decent; it de-oiled my hair a bit after a workout but did leave some product buildup. I repurchased a different scent already.
~ Champagne apple & honey lotion from Bath and Body Works - This is one of the ultra-shea lotions so it was very moisturizing. Some mornings I could still get whiffs of the apple scent coming off my legs, so it definitely has some lasting power.
~ Mario Badescu glycolic foaming cleanser - I liked how sudsy this got and it made my face feel clean. Unfortunately, I still experienced quite a few breakouts while using this so I probably won't repurchase.
~ Dr Jart+ BB dis-a-pore - Since I got this as a destash from a friend, it was one of the oldest products in my collection. It gave my face a very smooth appearance and had SPF 30 already in it, so I'm happy to have used it up during the summer months. I would consider repurchasing this in the future, but I have more than enough foundation to work through at the moment.
~ Bobbi Brown crushed liquid lip "Smoothie Move" mini - I loved this 100-point perk from Sephora. It looks full, but the doe foot wasn't picking up product and I couldn't get the stopper out, so I'm calling it done. I already purchased a full size of this.
~ Ellis Brooklyn "West" perfume sample - The notes for this one are "blood orange, clementine, basil, vetiver, and oakmoss" (card the sample came in) and to me it was a clean scent with a more earthy lean instead of floral. So I liked it more than I like floral scents, but it wasn't "me" and I would not repurchase.
~ Carolina Herrera "Good Girl" perfume sample - Notes for this one: "tuberose, jasmine, and tonka bean" (Sephora website). To me, it was warm and sweet, but not necessarily floral. I would consider using this one again.
~ Estee Lauder revitalizing supreme night cream - This was very thick but didn't feel greasy in the morning. It wasn't really my jam, so I wouldn't repurchase.
~ Estee Lauder advanced night repair serum - When I first started using this, I experienced much better skin. Unfortunately, I think that was because I was taking a break from working out since I was sick. Once I started working out again, the breakouts came back. Oh well. So I probably won't repurchase this either.
~ Ole Henriksen cold plunge pore mask - I didn't notice any kind of changes to my pores. And it stained my towels blue. Nope. Would not repurchase.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
