Healthy Habits Challenge - September 2019

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of September.

Purchases:
~ Clinique Take the Day Off cleansing balm - This was on sale for 50% off during Ulta's 21 Days of Beauty, so I made my repurchase early. I'm not taking this out of the budget since it's a staple product (and I didn't go bananas and "stock up since it's on sale").
~ Batiste dry shampoo (restock), Ulta brand cotton rounds (restock), and Neutrogena cleansing wipes (for after workout sweatiness that might be breaking me out) - basic items that don't come out of the budget
~ Tarte Shape Tape concealer, Benefit brow pencil, and two Urban Decay eyeliners on the last day of Ulta's 21 Days of Beauty. Everything was half off and I had a gift card, so I spent $27
~ Bobbi Brown crushed liquid lipstick "Smoothie Move" (got a deluxe sized sample and loved it so I'm repurchasing the full size); Charlotte Tillbury "pillowtalk" lipstick (gift with purchase); Urban Decay setting spray and moondust eyeshadow (birthday gift) - I used a gift card so I paid $2

Books read ($1 per 100 pages)
~ Scarlet by Marissa Meyer - 464 pages ($4.64)
~ Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens - 379 pages ($3.79)
~ A Suitable Vengeance by Elizabeth George - 464 pages ($4.64)

Exercise ($1 per workout class attended)
~ 9/1/19 - 1h walk on a local trail - $4
~ 9/5/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 9/6/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 9/9/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 9/9/19 - 1h walk on local trail - $4
~ 9/12/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 9/13/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 9/17/19 - 1h walk on local trail - $4
~ 9/24/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 9/25/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 9/25/19 - 1h walk on local trail - $4
~ 9/28/19 - Orange Theory class - $1
~ 9/29/19 - 1h walk on local trail - $4

Money available to spend: $16.13

Between all the holiday releases and my birthday, this was a tempting month. I had to tell myself "no" more often than I needed to in previous months. Having this budget was an effective way of stopping myself even when I couldn't necessarily talk myself out of an item entirely. I'm going to aim for continued willpower during the month of October.

November 2017 Empties

I'm happy with my skincare progress this past month. My system for using up perfume samples is also still going well, even though the darn things keep coming in. Per usual, here's a picture to be followed by mini-reviews and thoughts: ~ Stella McCartney sample card - I remember this as being a nice floral. Something I would use a sample of, but not necessarily buy. ~ J'Adore by Dior sample card - this smells like perfume to me. I couldn't really discern any specific notes. That said, it smells nice. I probably would not purchase this, partly because it doesn't come in a rollerball. ~ Elizabeth & James Nirvana Amethyst sample - The tobacco flower notes made me smell a bit like a smoker. A powdery smoker. Would not purchase. ~ Josie Maran finishing balm - will discuss in project pan update ~ Urban Decay "Stark Naked" - will discuss in project pan update ~ Maybelline FitMe concealer in 15/fair - This grew on me. It looks a bit too warm right of...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

Empties - June 2019

This past month, I came for my skincare foil samples with a vengeance. So this empties is, as always, mostly skincare with a little bit of makeup and haircare. ~ Exuviance performance peel - This is a two step kind of deal with an activated pad and a neutralizer pad. This sample contained one use, and I didn't see much of a change. I'm also in my 20s and am probably not the target audience. Wouldn't repurchase at this time. ~ boscia Clarifying Detox mask - Clay mask that dries on your face - meh. My skin felt maybe a little cleaner, but no other improvements. It was nice to use, but I probably wouldn't buy this again. I bought it at TJ Maxx a while ago, so goodness knows how old it is. ~ Mango Coconut Guava lotion - I have two sets of mini lotions like this from my family. So you can expect to see more little bottles like this. It smelled nice and has a thin texture, which is nice for the summer. I have seven more of these, so no need to repurchase anything righ...
