Makeup Inventory 2019

It's that time of year again, when I take everything out of its' storage on my desk and in various purses and toss it all in one place for the purpose of shaming myself and sharing it with the internet. I couldn't decide if  wanted to start or end with what I like to refer to as the "Dragon Pile" - everything shoved in a giant pile all together, much like a dragon's collection of hoarded treasure - and I think I'm going to end with it to pull this all together. I'll start with the most reasonably-sized category, and we'll move toward excess.

~ Eyeshadow primer - 1 - Bonus, it's a different one from last year since I used that one up.

~ Lip primer - 1 - Another product for which I feel like I only need one.

~ Contour - 1- I had this weird kick during which I was convinced that I had to learn to contour and needed the perfect product. And then I bought a thing, and never got into it. So I'll keep it so I'm not tempted to buy anything else, but I may declutter it by next year.

~ Face primer - 2 - These are both ones I enjoy using, and I don't want to purchase any more until I use one of these completely.

~ Brow products - 4 - I have 2 brow pencils, 1 brow gel, and 1 brow powder. My plan for brow purchases this year is that I can buy a brow pencil if I only have one. My goal is to use one up in between Ulta 21 Days of Beauty sales, and I'll buy whichever one is on a good deal. If I should for some reason run out of all brow pencils, I have powder and gel to fall back on.

~ Concealer - 3 - I'm happy with this number. Concealer is a staple product for me, so I'm hoping to use them up regularly. The Cover FX and NARS were here last year, so those are up for use-up first.

~ Foundation - 4 - Much like the contour stick, that Bobbi Brown foundation stick is there to deter me from purchasing more. It's nice to see that (besides the stick) all of these are new foundations. The ones from last year were either used up or decluttered.

~ Face palettes - 2 - The Kevyn Aucoin one gets used as both a highlighter and a bronzer, so it gets tossed into this category. I do not need more face palettes.

~ Bronzer - 3 - From here on, we're deep into "Wow, I really don't need to buy any more of these" territory. I also added in pictures of the open products for many of the categories.

~ Blush - 7 - Opened to show you (and really, myself) that these are very similar colors. Why do I do this?

~ Highlighter - 6 - I'd like to move through some highlighter this year.

~ Setting powder - 6 - These hourglass ones need to go, but I still feel guilty for buying them. I find it much easier to use loose powders, yet most of these are pressed. I need to work on that.

~ Setting spray - 4 - Another staple category that I'm fine with. I anticipate using up at least one during this next year, and I'll just buy more as needed.

~ Eye liner - 8 - I thought for sure this category would have increased, but I have fewer liners this year. I need to make more of an effort to use my pencil liners.

~ Eye shadow singles - 11 - Definitely more than I need, but I did get more use out of these shades than I had this time last year.

~ Eye shadow palettes - 12 - In comparison to last year, there are more shadows in the Z-palette, one of the quads is being kept for sentimental reasons (and not intended to be used), and one palette got decluttered. Doing the Pan those Eyeshadows project pan this past year got me quite a few more pans showing in palettes, which is really nice to see.

~ Mascara - 6 - Technically, 5 with one lash-enhancing serum. I've really kept to using up more mascara than I purchase (or acquire since most of them are GWP or points minis). Progress! (I say this after the giant eyeshadow picture.)

~ Lip liner - 4 - These are the same ones as last year.

~ Lip gloss - 10 - I used up minis, then got a lot of full sized glosses. The Bobbi Brown crushed liquid lip is somewhere in between a lipstick and a lip gloss, but it goes in here for texture.

~ Liquid lipstick - 9 -  I've gotten a lot more use out of these since discovering (well, actually using) the lip primer I have. Being able to wear a liquid lipstick without my lip skin flaking off has been a game-changer.

~ Bullet lipstick - 28 - Yeah, that's still problematic. I need to use some of these guys up.

~ Dragon Pile, as promised - It definitely brought home the feeling of excess in my makeup collection. I've gotten to the point in my makeup purchasing where I don't declutter as much because I don't like something. Unfortunately, I'm almost to the point of decluttering things because they've gotten too old. My ultimate goal for this upcoming year is to use up more than I bring in.

For those who are interested, here's a brief comparison to the 2018 inventory.

Looking at the numbers, I definitely showed more restraint in 2019 than 2018. My goal for 2020 (in addition to the category-specific goals listed before) is to decrease the overall number of products and increase the amount of pan I have showing in the products that remain. I have a few products that have been on the edge of being decluttered, but I hope to decrease primarily by using product up.

Any product that was in last year's inventory picture, but wasn't mentioned in my Empties posts was decluttered. I saved all of my declutters throughout the year and a friend was recently excited to take them off my hands.

December 2018 Empties

Y'all. This month looks pitiful compared to past months. I suspect it's because I've mainly been using full-sized skincare so I'm not blazing through as much as I have been. ~ It cosmetics secret sauce moisturizer sample - was a little too much for my oily skin. would not repurchase. ~ Mario Badescu herbal rehydrating serum sample set - this was a gel moisturizer, so it's no surprise that I liked this one. Might try it again in the future, but I have a lot of moisturizer to go through first. ~ 2 Sephora samples of Commodity Gold perfume - this is a warm, sweet scent that I really enjoy and I currently have a travel-size spray. ~ Living Proof perfect hair day shampoo - if you remember when I finished the conditioner, you'll recall that I hated this pair of shampoo and conditioner and I used it up as a shaving cream. Would not repurchase. ~ Estee Lauder sumptuous infinite mascara - this has a plastic bristle brush, which I normally don't like, but

Pan that Palette March Update

So last month my goals were to hit pan on "5th Ave" and "Marina" and I did not meet them. I did, however, hit pan on "NYC" and I'm happy to have something to show for my time with this thing. Since I used mostly "Marina" and "Paris" I think  I have bigger dips in them, but it's hard to say for sure. Anyway, here's a picture: For this next month's goals, I'm going big - I want to hit pan on "Marina," "Paris," and "5th Ave." Again, we'll see. I'm still working away at "Lula" since I use it in the crease, but it doesn't take very much to do what I need it to do.

Finish 5 by Fall - finale

I know this was a short project, but here are my results! 1) Bobbi Brown "Babe" has lived in my purse this month. I think I applied it a few times, but I did pitifully on this product. I ended up being more drawn to my Buxom VaVa Plump in "wine me" which is a dark pink/berry and that should be done in a few days. So some  lip product progress, but not as much as intended. Not enough progress to show a picture. Also I forgot what purse I put it in. Oops. 2) Becca SSP pressed "Moonstone" - I can see the pan, but that might be due more to air bubbles from repressing rather than true progress. 3) ABH Master Palette by Mario, "Lula" - still no pan. I'm going to keep using it as part of my Pan that Palette, so stay tuned. 4) finish "cream" from the original Lorac Pro - complete! I can't reach the little bits in the corners with my brush anymore, and I can't be bothered to repress that little for a second time. 5)
