Weekly Makeup Basket - January 20, 2019

It would make sense that if last week was a palette extravaganza, this week I pull out all the single shadows I have bouncing around. I really never reach for those poor suckers. Probably because I have so many beautiful palettes. Maybe someday I'll be one of those people who has a carefully curated Z-palette of singles that meet my needs. But for today I have a basket full of singles.

Base products:
~ L'Oreal infallible pro-matte foundation "101 - Classic Ivory"
~ L'Oreal magic lumi highlighter pen - I'm using this as a concealer, and I'm not a fan of the brush applicator. It clicks up like nothing...nothing...nothing...big glob right at the base of the bristles. Will finish using, but will probably not repurchase for that reason.
~ Becca Velvet Blurring Primer - liking this more each time I use it. Gives my face a soft, powdery feel after application and makeup goes on nicely over it.
~ Too Faced peach mist setting spray

Face products:
~ Bite multistick "Gelato"
~ Becca shimmering skin perfector pressed "Moonstone"
~ Benefit Hoola Lite bronzer

Eye products:
~ Tarte Tartelette in Bloom
~ Lorac eyeshadow primer
~ Colourpop super shock shadow "Fluffy"
~ Colourpop super shock shadow "Bouncy"
~ Revlon colorstay creme eye shadow "730" I think the name was "praline" but it's no longer on the packaging. I used this as a shimmery base the other day and layered the Tartelette shimmers over it, and I really liked the end result.
~ Burberry wet & dry silk shadow "Pale Barley - I have a friend who loves a good taupe. With this shadow, I get it.
~ NARS dual-intensity eyeshadow "Dione" - this looks a lot more silver on the eyes, which isn't what I normally go for.
~ Wet n Wild quad "Dragon Scales" - I know, not a single. When this came out, I HAD TO HAVE IT, and I haven't used it enough to justify the frenzy (story of this entire makeup collection).
~ UD waterline eyeliner "Walk of Shame"
~ L'Oreal eyeliner "highlight"
~ Stila stay all day liner "intense black"
~ Dior Diorshow Pump n Volume mascara - this is growing on me. When I first got this, it came out really clumpy and was a pain and a half to get off. Now it's actually giving me a voluminous effect and comes off like a regular mascara.

Brow products:
~ ABH brow definer "Medium Brown"
~ ABH tinted brow gel "Espresso"

Lip products:
~ NARS "Anita"
~ Rimmel lipliner "Wild Clover"
~ I haven't been very into glosses recently, so when I'm feeling one I just grab what I want.

Healthy Habits Challenge - February 2020

I have the habit of spending too much of my money on makeup, and spending too much of my time browsing for makeup and consuming makeup-related media. To counteract this, I make myself "earn" my makeup budget by doing things that are better for my mental and physical health. Here's how I did for the month of February: Purchases: ~ I bought a birthday gift for a friend at Ulta - does not come out of budget ~ I repurchased my husband some dental floss (does not come out of this budget) at Sephora and got a Bobbi Brown lip gloss as a point perk - $0 ~ I purchased a full size of YSL Libre perfume since I loved the sample so much (giving myself grace on this purchase this month) and got the UD brow enhancer brow gel in "Brunette Betty" on sale (counts as a replacement since I destashed my other brow gel when it went bad) ~ ABH Jackie Aina palette - it was on sale at Sephora - I used a $20 gift card so I spent $14.10 Books read ($1 per 100 pages) ~ Cress  by M...

December Empties

I finished 7 products in December, including 1 makeup product instead of all skincare! ~ Clinique take the day off cleansing balm sephora sample: It was odorless, and just oily enough to efficiently remove my eye makeup and mascara. Bonus, it didn't irritate my eyes. I got the full size for Christmas, but I'm going to try to make some progress on my Pond's cream before I crack into it. ~ Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin enzyme mask sample: I got the pack of deluxe sizes to try, and this mask took so long to finish, I'd never buy a full size. It smelled just like a pumpkin treat, so I enjoyed using it up in the fall/winter. ~ Too Cool for School egg mellow cream lotion: I used this as my morning moisturizer. It had a faintly sweet-lemon scent, which I enjoyed. The pump was nice, but I didn't know how much I had left until I went to pump it and it was empty :( ~ Clinique Welcome Wednesday deluxe lipstick from Christmas 2015: finally! I loved the brown-pink color, bu...

A Rambly Intro

"Come on, girl! You only have one face!" It's what I tell myself when I start aimlessly shopping for makeup. In the last year, I developed a bit of a shopping addiction, specifically makeup shopping.Writing a blog is my effort to keep myself accountable to start focusing less on buying. I'm going to focus more on using, first and foremost, and then on adding thoughtfully to my makeup wardrobe. This blog is most likely going to be my online makeup-focused diary. I don't have that many people to discuss this with in real life. And somehow posting a blog feels more anonymous than posting on reddit. (If you're interested in any makeup/usage discussion, head to r/makeuprehab or r/muacjdiscussion - some of those subreddit themes will likely influence my ramblings.) Here's a bit what to expect from me: empties posts, reviews, and random thoughts. The word "haul" is dangerous for me, but I might occasionally talk about items I've purchased recent...
